Character Matters

Your character is who you are when no one is looking. Your character is what you you’re willing to stand for when others are watching. Your character is who you are striving to be and what you can be trusted with. Integrity of our character occurs when there is consistency between our actions and inner convictions. Strong Christian character results from human effort and divine intervention. It is the work of God as you relate to Him. Strong Christian character is the result of your heart’s desire to obey God. So, how is your character?

Friends, God knows you inside and out. “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account to” (Hebrews 4:13). God knows your secret thoughts and feelings. He knows your dreams and aspirations. He knows where your loyalties are and what weaknesses you have that cause you to stumble. He knows what you have inside you that is keeping you from becoming a person of strong integrity and character. Maybe it’s a lust that controls your thoughts. Maybe it’s a habit or addiction that you can’t seem to shake and now controls your life. Maybe it’s a hurt hidden deep in your heart that affects how you treat others. Whatever it is, God can help.

This week, let the words of the psalmist be your prayer, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). Engage with God and let His grace develop a character within you that is beyond reproach.
