Taxes and Sixers

April 15 is a big day this year.  It’s the last day to file your taxes and it’s the last night for Sixers small groups on Wednesday night.  The children’s ministry continues for one more week, but Sixers will conclude on April 15.

Dealing with media

We have been talking about dealing with media for a few weeks in our Sixers small groups.  The main point of the discussions has been putting a filter in place to keep bad elements out of our lives and making sure that filter is aligned with God’s standards.

I came across this article today from the NY Times.  The article highlights another recent study that has made direct connections between high exposure to media (movies, music, TV, internet, etc.) and high risk for health issues.  Some of the “health” issues would also fall into the sin category for followers of Jesus (like sexual activity).

Most parents are thinking about guarding their kids from danger and sickness.  How many are thinking about guarding them from too much media?

Sixers Schedule Reminder

I wanted to post a little reminder for the Sixers Wednesday Schedule for the next few weeks.

December 24 – No Sixers
December 31 – No Sixers
January 7 – No Sixers
January 14 – Sixers begins again

If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call or drop me an email.

Sundae Fest – 11/19

I wanted to give you the inside scoop (you gotta love a good pun!) on our upcoming Sundae Fest for Sixers Wednesday.  On November 19, we’ll be hosting an ice creame sundae party with games and all around good fun for the students.  I’ll also be sharing the gospel on this night, so we are encouraging the students to bring any unsaved friends (6th graders only, please) that they know.  We’ll be sending home reminder cards, but there is no permission slip for this event.  Here’s the essential info:

  • Date: November 19
  • Time: 6:30pm-8:00pm
  • Location: Christ Community, Old Mill Campus, in the gym
  • Cost: $1

If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to give me a call at 938-1537.

Family Fun Center Night

Knowing that information doesn’t always make it home with the students, I thought I would post some of the key information for our upcoming Sixers event at Family Fun Center.

  • Date: Wednesday, October 15
  • Time: 6:30 – 8:15 – note that we will return to the church 15 minutes later than our usual end time.
  • Cost: $5 – this will give the students 60 tokens ($15 worth) and a free drink!
  • Transportation: we have chartered school buses to drive us to Family Fun Center and back. You should drop off and pick up your student at the CCC Old Mill gym.
  • The students are encouraged to bring friends as long as they (the friend) are currently in 6th grade. The more the merrier!

If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call at 938-1537.

Pray for a male leader

Please pray for God to supply another guy leader for the small groups on Wednesday. We really need one more leader, and I have already used up my sources for volunteers. Pray that God will stir the heart of someone to fill this role with excellence.

Wednesday Small groups

Last night was our first night of Sixers Wednesday! We had a great turn out and there was a lot of energy in the room.

Wednesday is the time we devote to our small groups so each student will belong to a set small group with a leader who is intentionally discipling them. The students have already signed up for these groups, but it’s not too late if your student isn’t involved. We’ll welcome any student who wants to be in a small group. All they have to do is show up and we’ll plug them in.

We meet most Wednesday evenings, but make sure to check the Sixers Schedule for details.
